Beatrice and Friends is a concept for a mini book series featuring the title character Beatrice Bee, alongside her 5 fairy friends: Lia, Shelby, Betty, Marcy, and Winona. Aimed at 5-7-year-olds, the stories of Beatrice and her friends aim to portray a tight-knit, all-girl group who can be role models for young girls (and boys!) navigating similar situations.
Returning to my childhood, I was hugely inspired by the Disney Fairies (2008-2015) and Strawberry Shortcake (2003), and I wanted to try my own version of those kinds of stories, stories about a group of girls and their friendships. I wanted to create a diverse, nuanced group of female characters who deal with the common struggles of girlhood. The hope for the project is to be expanded and developed even further in the future, with each of the fairy girls getting a dedicated mini-story.
